Cervical Cancer Risk Factors

A number of factors can increase a woman's risk of developing cervical cancer. Knowing your risk is important.

Risk factors for cervical cancer include:
  • Having multiple sexual partners
  • Having sex before the age of 18 (Immature cells seem to be more susceptible to cancerous changes.)
  • Having other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Having a compromised immune system
  • Smoking cigarettes
Even if you don't have any of the above risk factors, be sure to get a pelvic exam at least once a year.

I am a Stage 3B Cervical Cancer Survivor. I created a blog in an effort to raise Cervical Cancer Awareness www.cancerlost.blogspot.com. I was 28 when I was diagnosed with advanced Cervical Cancer and my story is a long, painful & inspiring one. Cervical Cancer is not talked about but it touches the lives of every single woman out there. We need to start talking about this cancer because it is not rare and it does kill.
