Abnormal Pap Test

According to my gyno, my pap test says I have vaginosis with atypical cells. I have no idea what this means, but additional tests have been ordered. Could my pap smear results mean that I have HPV?

WN,

You'll need to discuss these findings further with your doctor. What I can tell you is that a pap smear can't detect HPV, but it's a necessary exam to check for other conditions. You can request a separate test for HPV that will provide more specific answers.
